Sourdough bread

Making sourdough bread from scratch is quite simple. Only four ingredients needed:

  1. flour
  2. water
  3. salt
  4. time

It’s very rewarding although a bit time consuming. Definitely recommend trying it once.

There are so many recipes out there. This is the procedure I followed. In the video description you’ll find also a link to handy cheat sheets for the process on baking day:

Several notes:

  • It took me ~ 7 days to grow a new starter. Around day 5 it first started to develop a nice sour smell.
  • From around day 2 to 5 it did not smell pleasant at all. A comparison to baby vomit seems to be quite common (just google it!)
  • I think my dough was too wet which made it difficult to work with and impossible to shape.
